I had no intention of breeding Denali a third time, until we lost her dad - Sitka. My heart needed another piece of Sitka, and with Denali being his mini-me in almost every way, we made the decision to have one last litter with her. I reached out to the owner of Field Trial royalty, Jack Daniels, and asked about taking Denali to Jack... and here we are.
Basil is the single puppy produced from breeding Denali to 20 year old frozen semen from Hall of Fame 2x NFC 2x NCH FC AFC Fieldway's Jack Daniels.
And she's a rather good one.
As exuberant as she is talented, Basil is as natural a gazelle leaping excitedly into the air as she is a hard charging, forward bird dog. She is as sweet and wiggly in the house as she is a vacuum cleaner out finding wild birds. She has high style on point, intensity on her birds, a natural retrieve, love of water, and a can-do attitude in the field. She never has a bad day, doesn't get her feelings hurt, and is a "do first, think later", unapologetic, happy, goofball. We love her. Even when she is a headache provoking, well intentioned, menace :)
Basil quickly earned her Puppy/Derby points, showing off her nose and pattern early in life. She reached the top of the Vizsla Club of America Puppy/Derby list at a year old with limited trialing. She had an exceptional first hunting season, tackling wiley WA pheasants, coveys of quail, and huns as a pipsqueak. She won Best in Sweepstakes at the Puget Sound Vizsla Club Specialty - her very first show.
She has a lot to live up to when one looks at her pedigree - but she has taken to accepting that challenge with gusto. We have big plans and high hopes for our Basil Nut!
