The dog that found me my husband.
Orvis is my bonus kid! He is a Cinder son out of a breeding near and dear to my heart, as his mama dog Meg is one of my favorite vizslas that I've spent time with. When Meg had five boys, I immediately made the call to an enthusiastic potential puppy home who was an avid bird hunter. A 24 hour road trip nine weeks later to pick up puppies, months of visits for bird dogging, and two years to watch this talented young bird dog grow up -- Orvis (and his dad Ben) have officially joined the pack.
Orvis is a force in the field. He has a ground pounding, earth shattering gait with a cracking tail and forward race when he's cut loose. His high style on birds is matched with his nose and drive to hunt all day. He started his field trial career seeing blue, and didn't look back. Quickly earning his juvenile points towards his FC, Orvis then broke out easily and is ready to take on the Shooting Dog/Gun Dog season. When the weather cools off and it's time to hunt, he has that inborn ability to switch gears. Like his dad and granddad, he knows the difference between being horseback handled at a trial, and hunted on foot, and transitions accordingly. He's a fun dog to hunt behind, and is absolutely gorgeous on his birds.
At home, Orvis is a talker like both of his parents. He has Cinder's ROO with Meg's roaring talkativeness. He is a bouncy, smiling, vocal, goofball.
I (cough WE cough) have big plans for Orvis, and can't wait to see what he accomplishes.
