Perrin was supposed to be a girl. But, when I arrived to pick out my pup from the long awaited Cinder x Blondie litter, I just couldn't take my eyes off the little red collared boy. I told everyone, EVERYONE, not to let me take a boy home. This generation, I needed a Cinder daughter. But, Perrin.
The boy was a stand out from the minute he was born. He is a perfect mix of his hard charging rooing dad Cinder and his beautiful, biddable, talented mama Blondie. He is, thus far, already exceeding Bridget and my expectations and hopes for his litter. He started turning heads in the show ring as a baby puppy in the 4-6 month classes at Specialties, and has made my jaw drop on numerous occasions in the field. He is a driven, level headed, bold little bird dog. He has tackled the eastern Washington desert, the Idaho high desert, the Montana prairie, and SD cattails... all before 6 months old, and is finding and retrieving wild birds for us. Best of all, Perrin is the world's sweetest and easiest puppy. He came home right as our Veggies were born, and as a 12 week old puppy was gently playing with his baby cousins. He's a respectful pup to the adults and a mischievous playmate to his siblings. He excels at being a snuggly velcro vizsla scarf sleeping in bed and has never met a stranger. He takes on each new situation, whether it be social, training, or field work, with a can do confident attitude.
Perrin then hit the competition world and took it by storm. At a year old, Perrin became Dual Pointed, winning his first Puppy stake, placing in many more, and earning his first show points in the middle of field trial season. He moved on to Summer games, earning his Junior Hunter title in one weekend. He then took me to our first NAVHDA Natural Ability Test and earned himself a Natural Ability Prize 1, 112 -- a perfect score! That Fall we were back to the Field where he quickly earned his Derby points towards his FC. That win made him the VCA #1 Puppy/Derby Dog for the Fall, an added bonus along the way! Perrin then switched gears to the show ring, where he went out with our friend Sarah Luther/Velocity Handling and quickly earned his Championship in four weekends.
Perrin broke out easily, and is the first of my dogs that I have steadied here at home. He earned his Senior Hunter in one season, and started running Gun Dog stakes as a two year old. His first year running, he has picked up a retrieving major win and four solid gun dog placements in horseback stakes. He's getting better and better every day, and has an exciting future ahead of him!
Good boy, P!
This little rockstar has the potential to give his granddad Sitka a run for his money in the record breaking department, and Bridget and I have every intention to give him every opportunity to do so.
